AWS launches tool to explain AI agent decisions

Amazon Web Services introduced CloudWatch Omni to solve a growing problem: AI agents that seem to work fine but give wrong answers. The new tool helps companies understand *why* their AI made a particular choice.

For years, companies have used monitoring tools to check if their computer systems are running smoothly. The basic question was always: "Is it working?" But artificial intelligence agents—software that can think through problems and make decisions on their own—changed the game.

An AI agent can look perfectly fine on the surface. It might respond quickly, make no obvious errors, and hit all the performance targets. Yet it still gives a customer completely wrong information. That's where the real problem starts. Traditional monitoring tools can't answer the hardest question: "Why did the agent do that?"

Amazon Web Services just launched CloudWatch Omni to tackle exactly this problem. Think of it as a detective tool for AI decisions. When an agent makes a choice—whether to approve a loan, recommend a product, or answer a question—CloudWatch Omni helps companies trace through the agent's reasoning step by step. This matters because companies need to trust their AI, understand if something went wrong, and sometimes explain decisions to customers or regulators.

As more businesses deploy AI agents to handle real customer interactions, understanding why those agents decide things becomes just as important as checking if they're running at all.
