AI that fits in your smart glasses, no internet needed

A company called PrismML has created tiny artificial intelligence programs that run directly on Qualcomm smart glasses. This means your glasses can think on their own, without sending data to the cloud.

Smart glasses are becoming more common, but most of them need to send information to distant servers to work properly. PrismML is changing that by building very small AI systems — think of them as simplified versions of ChatGPT — that live directly on your glasses.

An LLM (Large Language Model) is software that understands and generates human language. Usually, these programs are enormous and run on powerful computers in data centers far away. PrismML's versions are stripped down to essentials, so they can run on the limited computing power inside your glasses without draining the battery in minutes.

Why does this matter? Privacy, speed, and independence. When your AI runs locally on your device, your conversations and activity stay on your device — they don't travel to distant servers. There's also no delay waiting for a response over the internet. And you don't need a constant connection to use them. Qualcomm, the company that makes the chips powering these glasses, is helping bring this technology to real devices.

PrismML's larger goal is to prove that we don't need giant, centralized AI systems for everything. By making smart software that works with the computing power devices already have, they're pushing toward a future where your everyday gadgets are smarter and more private.
