What's happening?

Scientists at MIT have found a new way to use artificial intelligence in quantum computing — a cutting-edge field of computing that promises to solve problems regular computers can't handle. They're using GPT-5.6 Sol, an advanced AI model (a mathematical system trained to understand and write code), to automatically run experiments on quantum computers.

Think of it like this: normally, a researcher would write instructions, run an experiment, check the results, and then manually adjust settings to try again. Now, the AI does all these steps on its own. It uses a tool called Codex (essentially AI-powered coding assistance) to write the instructions, run the experiments, analyze what happened, and make adjustments — all without a human typing a single command.
